Matters with proscribed TLP settled: Sheikh Rashid

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday said that matters with proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) have been settled and out of 733 detained workers of the party, 699 have already been released from custody.

 

Addressing a press conference, the Interior Minister clarified that 210 first information reports (FIRs) registered against the religious party members including Saad Rizvi will go through the legal process.

 

Sheikh Rashid further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to tighten the noose around people who misuse religious sentiment and revealed that government is working on legislation to stop disrespect of religious sects.

 

The minister also informed that a meeting was held at Interior Ministry regarding social media and fake news and a complete study is underway on the issue. Foreign elements used the social media to spread misinformation as over 200,000 people from India were online on the social networks, he added.
